The Church of The Divine Wisdom (Discoverys -2)

Half Day
Everyday except  Monday / 09:00 or 12:30

For almost a thousand years, it was the largest construction dedicated to Christendom and symbolized the strength and wealth of Byzantine emperors. Later it was converted into a mousqe by the Ottomans. Now, having the spiritual mixture of two major beliefs and traces of two mighty empires, Hagia Sophia with its breathtaking frescoes enchants visitors. The Underground Cistern, Built in the sixth century, is the most remarkable example of Byzantine architecture. The cistern, upheld by centuries old marble pillars, corinthian in style, is an interesting sight of the city. The Church of ST. Savior in Chora., Built outside the city walls in early twelfth century: hence the name "in chora".  Contains superb examples of well-preserved mosaics and frescoes, depicting the life of Madonna and child.
